India has strongly condemned the remarks made by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei regarding the situation of Muslims in India. The Ministry of External Affairs termed this statement as “unacceptable.” Ayatollah Khamenei, in his remarks, mentioned India along with Gaza and Myanmar, where he claimed Muslims are facing hardships. India responded with a sharp diplomatic rebuke.
What do you think, will this event affect India-Iran relations? Yes / No
In its response, the Ministry of External Affairs stated, “We strongly condemn the comments made by the Iran Supreme Leader Khamenei about minorities in India. These are false statements and are entirely unacceptable. Countries making comments about minorities are advised to focus on the situation of minorities in their own country before making such statements about others.”
This statement clearly sends a firm message to Iran that India will not tolerate external interference or misinformation regarding its internal matters.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had posted on social media, “If we remain indifferent to the suffering of Muslims in Myanmar, Gaza, India, or any other place, we cannot consider ourselves Muslims.” His statement was also translated into Bengali, which led to its wide circulation.
Speaking on the occasion of Islamic Unity Week, he emphasized the need for unity between the Shia and Sunni communities, saying, “The concept of the Islamic Ummah must never be forgotten.” He also met with Sunni leaders of Iran, praising their contributions.
However, India raised strong objections to the mention of the country. The Ministry of External Affairs called it “unacceptable,” stating that the comments were based on misinformation. The statement also suggested that countries should review their own records before commenting on others.
